Getting Ready For What’s Next

Here’s the thing about our middle schoolers: they’re not just getting ready for 9th grade, they’re getting ready for life. We focus on the skills that actually matter – like figuring out how to manage their time, study effectively, and learn independently. Plus, our kids build REAL FRIENDSHIPS with other students who get what it’s like to learn differently. When our graduates head to high school, they’re not just prepared – they’re excited about what comes next.

Creating Joy in Learning

PCS students love to come to middle school! We’ve built flexibility right into the day so students can explore what they’re passionate about and discover who they are. Our middle schoolers dive into Student Council, put on musicals, and work on independence through our Academic Extension Block. They practice TAE KWON DO during school hours, get their hands dirty in our STEAM lab and greenhouse, and go on field trips that actually connect to what they’re learning. Because when school is engaging, learning just happens.

The confidence students gain in Taekwondo doesn’t stay in the studio. Teachers regularly report that students who earn belts show increased willingness to take academic risks, participate more in class discussions, and approach challenging reading tasks with the same “I can do this” attitude.

At PCS, our Taekwondo program is built around our school values of Perseverance, Compassion, and Self-Control. Students earn belts based on demonstrating these qualities, connecting their physical achievements to character development. Our decorated instructors, Grand Master Zang and Master Huang, create an environment where every student progresses at their own pace – no comparison to classmates, just personal growth.

Are you looking for a new school to call home for your struggling reader? There’s still time to make the switch! At PROVIDENT CHARTER SCHOOLS (PCS) we are currently enrolling 1st-8th grades for fall 2025! Here’s a simple guide to help you easily navigate our public charter school enrollment process. 

Step 2: Complete an Application Form

Fill out our online APPLICATION FORM to begin the enrollment process. If your child has not yet been evaluated for dyslexia/SLD, our Admissions Team will contact you to schedule an informal screening.

Step 3: Complete the Registration Packet

Once the Admissions Team has reviewed your application and determined if your child qualifies for enrollment at PCS, we’ll notify you by phone and email. We will then email you an enrollment packet, which you’ll have 14 days to complete to secure admission to our school.

At PROVIDENT CHARTER SCHOOLS (PCS),  we are known for our warm and caring learning environment. To get to know more about the people behind our school culture, we recently chatted with PCS Central 4th Grade Team Lead and Special Education Teacher Janet Miller.

Here’s what she had to say!

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

One of the most influential figures in my journey as an educator was my favorite college professor, Steven Pink. He had an incredible ability to provide feedback in a way that was both constructive and inspiring. As a graphic design student navigating a creative and competitive field, his approach allowed me to grow while still embracing my individuality.

What stood out most was his ability to blend unconventional teaching methods with traditional instruction finding the perfect balance for young adults. His teaching not only shaped my perspective as a student but also influenced the way I approach education today. I strive to create a classroom environment where students feel supported, challenged, and empowered to develop their own unique strengths.

How does the PCS mission and vision align with your personal values?

Education is more than just teaching, it’s about closing gaps and unlocking potential. Having someone with dyslexia in my family, I have seen firsthand the challenges that come with language-based learning differences. This personal experience has fueled my passion for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

At Provident Charter Schools, I am committed to using multi-sensory instructional methods and individualized learning plans to help students build confidence and succeed. My mission is to ensure that each child not only overcomes obstacles but also discovers their strengths, empowering them for lifelong success.

What do you love most about your role?

One of the greatest joys of being an educator is building strong, meaningful relationships with my students. I love showing them that I see their full potential, reminding them how amazing they are, and growing alongside them.

Some of my favorite moments are when former students stop by my classroom just to say hi, share a personal achievement, or tell me about a new experience. There’s something truly special about seeing them continue to grow and knowing I played a small part in their journey. When a student who once gave me a big bear hug in fourth grade still greets me the same way years later, it’s a powerful reminder of the lasting impact we have on each other. These are the moments I cherish most, the connections that make teaching so meaningful.

What was your favorite book when you were young?

One of my favorite books as a child was The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Its message of unconditional love and generosity has always stuck with me. As an educator, I strive to bring that same sense of kindness and support into my classroom, helping students grow while reminding them of their own worth and potential.

Tell us a little about your life outside of PCS!

Beyond an educator I am a wife, a mother of two amazing girls – who both attend Provident Charter Schools. I love nature and I try to embody kindness and optimism into my daily life. I live in the country with my family, dog, and all the crazy animals that we decide to take in. I will take sunshine over snow any day and hope that I am able to inspire and encourage people along my journey.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Snyder in preschool. I loved going to school because of her kindness and I still remember the fun crafts and activities!

How does the PCS mission and vision align with your personal values?

Provident’s mission is to provide high quality learning through multisensory instruction to prepare students to succeed and be confident in their abilities. This vision aligns with my personal values because I believe every student, with the right instruction and support, is capable of success and will be confident inside and outside of school. I believe that multisensory instruction is important because not all students learn the same – and that is ok. PCS is a fun and impactful environment that provides a high quality education that all kids deserve.

What do you love most about your role?

I love that I can create a fun and exciting space for kids to enhance their joy of learning. I enjoy getting to see the progress in different subjects and see students become more confident readers. One of my favorite memories from this year was when a student drew me a picture of us together. He wrote “you are a good teacher” and gave me a big hug.

What was your favorite book when you were young?

Charlotte’s Web was my favorite book.

Tell us a little about your life outside of PCS!

I believe that God has a good plan for us and that we all were created with specific gifts and talents to make a difference in this world. I feel blessed for this job and to work at PCS. I also love my family, friends, dogs, exercising, and exploring new places.
