PCS West 2nd Grade Teacher & Wilson Reading Specialist
At PROVIDENT CHARTER SCHOOLS (PCS), we are known for our warm and caring learning environment. To get to know more about the people behind our school culture, we recently chatted with PCS West 2nd Grade Teacher and Wilson Reading Specialist Michelle George.
Here’s what she had to say!
What inspired you to become an educator?
I was always playing school when I was little. I got all of my dolls and made them my students and would use my bedroom as our classroom. I enjoyed pretending to teach them reading and spelling and would make tests for them to take. I couldn’t wait to have a real classroom of my own some day.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Ratai. I remember she was always smiling and made learning fun. She was very respectful and kind. I looked up to her so much.
How does the PCS mission and vision align with your personal values?
I am a strong believer that every child can learn, no matter what. When provided with the right teachers along with a multi-sensory approach, any child can learn.
What do you love most about your role?
Seeing my students explode in their reading! Seeing that progress is priceless. I also love to have fun with the students while engaged and learning at the same time. A couple of my favorite memories are when my 2nd graders celebrated their learning by putting together note cards and a poster to present to families and laughing with my students as we learn.
What was your favorite book when you were young?
I loved the Junie B. Jones series and the Goosebumps books.
Tell us a little about your life outside of PCS!
I love to exercise: walking, hiking, playing tennis. I also love a good road trip with friends with the windows down and music playing. My favorite color is pink, I love tacos, and I have 2 cats: Pierogi and Nash.
